Vision Teaching are working with a very established, successful residential hearing-impaired unit based in Wandsworth. This extremely organized unit are looking for a MSI Residential Worker to provide support for a Deaf Blind student with their social and emotional wellbeing who may have multiple additional needs including mental health issues. The MSI Residential Worker will need to facilitate communication as well.
The student resides in the unit 4 nights a week and staff are required to undertake at least two sleep-in duties to facilitate this. Sleep-in duties are paid as extra and is not inclusive of working hours. The pupils in this MSI unit are aged 11-19 and there is a maximum of 17 pupils at any time. Staff must be able to work shift hours, on Rota, as required, plus sleep-in duties. 30 minutes unpaid break are given each day.
We are looking for a MSI Residential Worker who has excellent communication skills, with a good knowledge of deafness, communication difficulties, positive behaviour management and additional health and educational needs. Experience of personal care support is preferable. Qualifications needed: - BSL Level 2 Minimum -GCSE pass at or above Grade C in English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent) - Willingness to undertake NVQ Level 3 children/social care
Main Activities and Responsibilities: - To promote the physical, intellectual, emotional and social wellbeing of students who are MSI and who may have multiple additional needs, including mental health issues - Organising and developing individual students care needs, within a waking day curriculum, ensuring a background of understanding and security, and good physical and emotional care. - To develop a trusting relationship with the MSI student
- To facilitate interaction, relaying verbal and non-verbal communications and promoting engagement with others within the residential setting - To ensure that the residential environment is safe and accessible for the student. To report Health and safety concerns to the appropriate people - To improve outcomes for the MSI student linked to their cognition and learning, communication and interaction, social and emotional needs and independence. (EHCP and Residential targets)
-Assist in organising the pupils leisure time, initiating and participating in a variety of activities, using the on-site facilities and within the local community.
- Support the MSI students with food preparation, feeding and other dietary needs, whilst promoting independence - To ensure any specialist equipment is fully functioning and used effectively
